College Admission Tips for the Fall

Happy Autumn Everyone!

Well, it’s almost Autumn. I guess I am just looking forward to the fall cool down.

And… This is the last year my own son will be in high school. Now, he is not a musician, but getting him ready to head out into the big world is still just as exciting.

I know everyone is focusing on school but as we all know that time will go by so quickly. Make certain you stick to the course of preparing to leave high school as well as doing great for your teen’s last year. Having your teen keep up the grades, practice, fulfilling volunteer hours, after school activities and everything else is a strange juggling act for sure. If you take it one day at a time and do not wait until the last minute, it will not seem so overwhelming. I think writing down tasks and staying organized really helps.

If there are any parents with seniors in high school out there, I will give a few tips that might be worth your while.

My Fall Tips for College Admission:

  1. Remember FAFSA! The time to begin applications is in October (next month) so I would get your ducks in a row now.

  2. Each college may have its own deadline. Check with the college(s) you’re interested in attending. You may also want to ask your college about its definition of an application deadline. Is it the date your FAFSA form is processed or the date the college receives your processed FAFSA data?

  3. You should already be organized with your college choices and deadlines, audition dates and preparation for those auditions.

  4. Make certain you have time set aside for rest and outdoor activities. Stay Healthy!

  5. If you haven’t already, get your volunteer hours rolling! Make sure your teen creates something special that will make them stand out.

I know as a parent, it can be scary to hand the reins over to your teen as you know inevitably they will forget something or miss a deadline but you can always check in to make certain each task stays in line and is ready to go by the time those deadlines arrive. This is a perfect time to see them off into the world and help them step up and become an adult. You've got this! ~ They've got this!

The time is now!

I am giving an online lecture at the Coronado Public Library this September 23rd (Friday) at 6pm PDT. Any parent with a college bound teen is invited to stop by with their child and get some time saving and helpful tips.
